Special Instruction (SI) provides individualized instruction to support your child's developmental needs. This may involve working on various skills, including communication, cognition, physical, sensory processing and/or adaptive.
Special Instructors work collaboratively with families to develop a strong team to support their child. Families might have concerns regarding their child's development. Special instructors address these concerns directly, providing information, resources, and strategies for managing specific challenges.
Our special instructors help parents and caregivers create a learning environment that will best promote your child's development. We encourage play with a purpose and provide caregivers with the knowledge, abilities, and encouragement they need to make every learning opportunity meaningful.
Special Instruction-Behavior (SI-B) service encompass a wide range of services and strategies aimed at helping young children with or at-risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related conditions. Autism is a social communication disorder that impairs the ability to communicate, interact with others, calm or self-regulate. The mood and behavior of children with ASD may be affected by their environment, area or space. SI-B service will help to address challenging behaviors including tantrums, aggressive/injurious actions, in a positive and constructive way.
Our ASD team work with families to create safe and predictable routines to support child development. Children with ASD rely heavily on predictability. Counseling, training, and resources are provided to help your family understand ASD and learn strategies to support your child's development.
SI-B/ASD services include a variety of evidence-based interventions to help children with ASD or at-risk for the condition to thrive. Project ImPACT's, parent-mediated intervention program is one of the natural environment teaching (NET) models recommended to families seeking a methodical tier approach.

Goals of Behavior Supports:
Types of Behavior Supports:
Occupational Therapists can address various developmental areas, including motor skills, cognitive skills, social skills, and sensory processing. OT services center around "occupations," which are the everyday activities children engage in, such as playing, eating, dressing, sleeping, and socializing. OT's help children improve the skills needed to participate in these daily activities independently and meaningfully. This includes physical skills like grasping, coordination, and balance, as well as cognitive skills like problem-solving, attention, and sensory processing. OT sessions often incorporate playful activities that target specific skills. This can involve using adaptive toys, modifying environments, and engaging in structured play activities.
Many children with developmental delays have sensory processing challenges, which are often associated with behavior challenges. Occupational therapy is strongly recommended for young children with autism and related conditions that may result in weak muscles or motor skills, sensorial imbalance, emotional challenges, or an inability to self-soothe. Our OT's provide families and caregivers with effective strategies and activities to understand and manage your child's sensory input.
Social Workers collaborate with other early intervention professionals, such as therapists, special instructors, and healthcare providers to share information, coordinate services, and ensure a cohesive approach to supporting your child and family.
Our social workers provide emotional support, connect families to resources, advocate for their needs, and empower them to be active participants in your child's development. They address specific family concerns related to the child's development, such as housing issues, domestic violence, or substance abuse. Training, education, and strategies are provided to help families understand their child's needs and support their progress at home and in the community.
